Scary Math: “Paranormal Activity” Grows in Richmond

I won’t be the 1,000th critic to compare the homegrown reality-horror-that-could to “Blair Witch.”
That’s because it appears that the new guerilla-marketed, bare-bones budgeted, ghost-in-the-camcorder movie might well destroy $140 million domestic bank that the lost in the woods posse drummed up back in 1999. “Paranormal Activity” has already grossed $35 million – and it’s in fewer than 800 theaters – a screening ceiling it just hit in its fourth week of release. Last weekend the flick averaged $25K per theater. To give you an idea of how big this is, No. 1 movie “Where the Wild Things Are” made $32 million in nearly 4,000 theaters, giving it a very solid $8,754 per theater gross.
This weekend, “Paranormal Activity” opens wider, especially in Richmond. Joining Movieland in projecting the creep show are Regal West Tower 10, Regal Virginia Center 20, the Commonwealth 20 and the Carmike 10.
In other words, no one will be getting much sleep this weekend.
Check out this review of "Paranormal Activity" from Associated Press. They gave it three stars out of four.
Check out "Screen Scene" twice weekly for what's hot or not on the big and small screen.
