OK, now that Restaurant Week is over, I realize I’ve been neglecting my restaurant news duties. So, as my colleague and Richmond.com music blogger Christy Sheppard would say, let’s do this quick and dirty.
First, a recap. City Dogs in The Fan, open; Garnett's Cafe, open (we’ll have a fabulous slideshow tomorrow) and if you’re looking to check out the new Infuzion, they finally got a Web site, which you can see here.
Now onto the new stuff. Easy Street celebrated its last day on Halloween and is currently closed to undergo a brief transformation. Very brief. The Fan restaurant with the great patio is set to reopen on Friday, Nov. 6 with a revamped menu and a new name: F.W. Sullivan’s Fan Bar & Grille. Stay tuned for details.
Richmonders and Fan rats alike were saddened to hear that The Border Chophouse & Bar closed in September. Of course, no one was sadder than Richmond.com folks, since The Dirty B, as we loving called it, served as the go-to after work drink spot for rdcers for a decade. But soon enough a new restaurant, brought to us by the owners of Mezzanine, will take its place. They’re still working on the concept, but I, for one, am already a fan.
The Republic Restaurant & Bar, is putting the finishing touches on its spot (in the former Cabo’s) and, fingers crossed, will be open soon. In sad restaurant news, though, River District News is reporting that Richbrau Brewing CO closed the Taphouse Grill, its restaurant next door. It also closed the second floor dance club.
In events news, if you’re mourning the loss of Restaurant Week (and who isn’t) then check out our profile on Acacia’s weekly prix fixe dinners (and look for more details to come on all these dinners around town).
I’m also working on my annual list of restaurants serving Thanksgiving dinner. That should be ready next week, but shoot me an email if you’re impatient and I’ll give you a head’s up.
If you’re looking to make other dining plans now, there’s plenty to do: Morton's, The Steakhouse is hosting a blind wine tasting dinner in a few weeks; Chez Foushee is having its last First Fridays dinner this Friday; Gibson's Grill is having a Harvest Wine Dinner on Monday, Nov. 9 for $50 per person; and Sensi Restaurant is hosting an array of events (check out their Web site for details).
Finally, on Friday Stronghill Dining Company is unveiling its new Small Plates menu ($11 to $15): Pan Roasted Colorado Lamb Chop; Grilled Housemade Sausage; Roasted Duck Confit; Coffee Braised Shortrib; Sauteed Butternut Squash Gnocci.
Restaurant owners, do you have an event coming up that I failed to mention? Shoot me an email at kpeifer@richmond.com and I’ll tell you how easy it is to get it on our calendar. Or, anyone else, if you have any restaurant news to dish, drop me a line.
And if you’re not following me on Twitter @KarriPeifer you’re missing all kinds of dining news and updates, not to mention my hilarious tweets.
