Richmond must really hate tapas. First Europa tweaked its menu, adding more pasta entrées and meal-sized portions, then Emilio's followed suit, even removing the word "tapas" from its name.
Now another Richmond restaurant has shed its tapas heritage so thoroughly that it’s left the cuisine of Spain entirely, settling instead for Italy.
That’s right, I’m talking about Si Tapas which, if you haven’t heard (and if you were following me on Twitter @KarriPeifer, you would have already) closed its doors on Saturday, Oct. 3 and plans to reopen in a few weeks as Pie, the Italian pizza joint we’ve all been waiting for across from CenterStage.
Now before you get all excited, let me just say that Pie on the corner of Grace and 6th streets is still in the works.
As I reported a few weeks ago, Pie’s opening, originally slated to happen along with CenterStage, was already being delayed so that owner Mo Roman could concentrate on revamping Vault, the dance club situated under Bank. Wait, that’s not right. Pie was originally supposed to open in April, but its opening was pushed back till summer so that they could get Vault opened.
Regardless, Pie in some form will be opening in a few weeks in the former Si on Lombardy and will also eventually open across from CenterStage. The menu for Lombardy features salads ($6 to $8), Panini and specialty pizzas like Mixed Mushroom, $10, Organic Butcher’s Spicy Lamb Sausage, $13, and Caromont Farm Goat Cheese, $12.
In other news, the newly revamped Lemaire is already getting accolades with a spot on Esquire magazine’s "Best New Restaurants of 2009" list. The magazine will be out on Oct. 13, so congratulations Lemaire! If you missed our slideshow of the interior, you can check it out here. And you can see all our great restaurant slideshows here.
Don’t forget, Richmond, that there are all kinds of great food festivals this weekend: the Italian Street Festival, Festival of India and the Woodland Vineyard Harvest Festival. Read all about it in "The Fix."
Finally, we’ve got two more Restaurant Week menus to share (in addition to the one from Europa we showed you last week).
The Dining Room At The Berkeley Hotel First Course (choice of): barbecued shrimp; Virginia home-style Brunswick stew; field green salad or Caesar salad.
Second Course: tilapia stuffed with jumbo lump crab meat; fried chicken with mashed potatoes and veggies; bistro steak or vegetarian risotto.
Third Course: bread pudding, New York style cheesecake or house-made gelato.
Zeus Gallery Café: OK, I don’t have the full menu from Zeus, but here’s what I have. Owner Ted Doll says, "for Restaurant Week we'll be playing the duck pond to table game with our braised duck tossed with broccoli rabe and mezzi rigatoni in a tomato ragu, other highlights include a house-made Italian sausage polenta appetizer, and for dessert a rich Belgian chocolate pate."
Yum. All for $25.09 per person. I’ll add the other menus as they come in, but in the meantime, check out the other Restaurant Week participants here. Restaurant Week is Monday, Oct. 26 through Sunday, Nov. 1
