"The Wedding Singer" musical, Kids' Carniball, Play Dates for adults, "Opie & Anthony's" Jim Norton and more fun stuff to do this weekend.
1. The Wedding Singer
Friday through Sunday
Hard to believe the Adam Sandler movie "The Wedding Singer" came out in 1998. Man, that makes me feel old! The musical version hit Broadway in 2006 and comes to Richmond this weekend on tour.
Expect a healthy dose of '80s fashion, covers of '80s music and big old '80s hair.
Check out Richmond.com on Saturday to read our review!
2. Kids' Carniball
Saturday
If it's too cold to take the kids outside this weekend, take them to Kids' Carniball at CMoR: Destination Italy!
The annual event has an Italian theme this year. The kids can expect to participate in Italian themed art projects, face painting, balloon give-aways, story time, a juggling jester, a stilt walker, pizza bites, a juice tasting station and more.
There's also a Twilight Carniball for adults on Friday night with Italian food from Amici, Mamma Zu and Bacchus and music from The Kool Kats Lite.
3. Play Date
Saturday
If board games and Twister are your thing, check out Play Date, the new social mixer at The Hat Factory that aims to get you mixing and mingling by playing games with other adults like Twister, Connect Four, Hungry Hungry Hippos, Wii stations and maybe even old school with Atari.
4. Prabir/Goldrush
Thursday
Free show! Frontman Prabir Mehta, formerly of Prabir and the Substitutes, is teaming up with Matt and Treesa Gold of the Richmond Symphony for a brand new kind of music. It's rock and roll meets classical. Read our full story here. And catch a free show at Six Burner this weekend.
5. Jim Norton at Funnybone
Friday and Saturday
Rabid fans of the "Opie & Anthony" show on XM radio take note, this is your weekend!
"Opie & Anthony" regular Jim Norton is in town and performing stand-up at the Funnybone.
Besides cracking jokes on the radio, Norton has also had his own one-hour special stand-up show on HBO called "Monster Rain," appeared on "The Tonight Show" and written two books, both of them bestsellers, "Happy Endings: The Tales of a Meaty-Breasted Zilch" and "I Hate Your Guts," both a collection of personal anecdotes and goofy tales from his life.
